Meaning
Cryptographic commitments generated and stored outside base consensus layers prove an actor’s specific authorization without consuming public block space. Through off-chain intent proof, users sign structured payloads indicating willingness to alter balances, grant approvals or execute conditional settlements under predefined parameters. The standard governs decentralized order matching, off-chain permit mechanisms and meta-transaction dispatching protocols.
The framework stops applying the moment an intent is submitted, validated and finalized inside an on-chain execution contract.
Intent Generation
Modern interaction models allow accounts to sign standardized data structures that specify actions to be completed by third-party actors. Using off-chain intent proof, the signer signs a human-readable typed data structure that describes an intended asset transfer and fee payment. Relayers or automated solver networks aggregate these signed statements, submit them to settlement contracts, and advance the required gas capital.
The settlement contract evaluates the signature against the stated intent parameters before initiating execution. This separation decouples the generation of an operational instruction from its network submission.
Evidential Fragility
Proving that an off-chain intent was modified, canceled or superseded presents severe evidentiary obstacles when signatures travel across distributed message relays. Internal corporate records might show that an intent was rescinded via internal communications, but if the signed digest remains accessible in public mempools, third-party solvers can execute it on-chain against available assets. Disagreements arise when founders discover historical intent payloads executed long after the commercial rationale expired.
The presence of an off-chain signature creates continuous financial exposure unless an explicit invalidation transaction is broadcast. Documenting intent revoking requires expenditure of gas fees to advance on-chain cancel counters, turning an administrative choice into a financial cost.
Settlement Invalidation
An intent payload becomes completely unexecutable when target state preconditions change before settlement settles on-chain. If an account balance falls below the authorization threshold, or if an on-chain cancellation nonce advances, the contract execution reverts instantly. The off-chain intent proof persists as an authentic cryptographic artifact, but its operational validity terminates entirely.
The mechanism relies on absolute synchronization between off-chain structural definitions and real-time on-chain balances.
